Anxiety in Work Meetings? Hypnotherapy Can Help
Many people experience anxiety in work meetings. They can feel very uncomfortable. You know that colleagues and clients expect you to contribute, but you can barely speak. And when you do, your memory and lets you down while your body is in fight or flight mode with intense emotions, a pounding heart, and a churning stomach.
Often, to progress in your career, you have to perform well and contribute effectively in meetings. It can be frustrating for co-workers to miss your input to a meeting, as your contribution may be a project’s missing piece or opinion.
Anxiety in meetings can stop you from performing at your best. Learning how to be more relaxed in meetings means you can focus on the job at hand and regulate emotions better. In addition, you can learn how to manage post-event rumination effectively, helping you to reduce the dread you feel about the next meeting.
So many clients have reported that anxiety in meetings prevents them from hearing what others are saying because they become so preoccupied with the intensity of the feelings in their body or what they, themselves, are going to say. Becoming more relaxed in meetings means that you can communicate better, but you can also concentrate and listen well.
Creating a Toolkit to Manage Anxiety
We work together to create tools that help you feel confident and manage anxiety before, during and after meetings. The tools are the solutions in our sessions, created in the talking therapy part of the session. We address unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that help foster a more positive mindset, and you will learn relaxation tools to help the body calm down and keep that ‘fight or flight’ in check. Using techniques such as positive appraisal post-event has been shown to improve confidence and reassure the brain’s anxiety centre.
