Manage anxiety, stress and improve well-being by walking in the woods
It doesn’t have to be limited to breathing techniques and talking therapy. In Japan, there is a term, ‘Shinrin-yoku’ that means ‘forest bathing.’ or ‘being amongst the trees.’ Forest Therapy has become part of the Japanese lifestyle, and there is a robust body of evidence on the health benefits that tree bathing can give us, as long as you are walking amongst the trees in a relaxed way.
I recently read a wonderful book called ‘The Hidden Life of Trees; What They Feel, How they Communicate; Discoveries from a Secret World’, by a German Forester, Peter Wohlleben. Did you know that many trees give off organic compounds that support our NK, natural killer cells that are part of our immune system’s way of fighting disease? We are blessed with so many places in Great Britain where we can be amongst trees, ancient and young. Enjoy the vivid colours of the Autumn and go, bathe in the forest, it’s good for you and helps you to manage stress.
Hypnotherapy is proven to be highly effective for managing stress. It can help you to actively reduce your stress levels and teach you techniques that you can continue using in the future. By working together to change your perception of situations and your ability to cope with stress, you can rationally and honestly work out the steps you need to take in order to gain some perspective and clarity on the situation, viewing things from a stronger, and different vantage point.
Following an extensive review of the existing literature on hypnotherapy, the British Medical Association concluded that hypnotherapy was not only effective but may be ‘the treatment of choice’ in dealing with anxiety (‘psychoneurosis’) and stress-related (‘psycho-somatic’) disorders.
