Adele uses hypnotherapy to manage stage fright

Award-winning singer Adele was reported to have seen a Hypnotherapist in LA to help her manage her stage fright before The Oscars.  A source close to the singer said that  ‘Adele was getting so nervous about the gig. She had been rehearsing for the show with an orchestra, but all the preparation in the world isn’t enough to keep her calm.’

Hypnotherapy is widely used in the entertainment industry. It utilises talking therapy and hypnosis in which the actor or musician will mental rehearse the event in positive trance using their imagination, as well as working to help them manage stage fright and lower general anxiety.  The same process is used whether it is an audition, performance, award acceptance speech, even a meeting –  and is an effective tool in the process of preparation.  While no one would ever suggest that mental could replace physical practice, skills can be enhanced and in a remarkable way through repetition. Mental rehearsal has other advantages in addition to building confidence and concentration, it becomes an additional rehearsal room where anything is possible and you are performing to the best of your ability.  Through hypnosis, I enjoy working with my clients to solve the ‘issue’ inside their head before carrying out the actual physical practice so by the time they get round to the actual performance, they would have lowered their anxiety enough so that they can focus and enjoy the performance. Feelings are discussed and normalised, working with mindfulness and acceptance in order to lower anxiety and manage fear. It’s an empowering process for the client.
